When an initial seismic assessment (ISA) returns a very low %NBS score, it means the building is potentially earthquake prone and could present a high safety risk to occupants. When this happens we recommend a detailed seismic assessment (DSA) to get the full picture. This was the case for our client’s 1980s office and commercial building in Manukau, so we examined the building in more depth. GRIT’s sophisticated structural modelling and earthquake simulations gave us a better understanding of how the structure will behave during a seismic event, and we were able to revise the initial %NBS score to a much higher one - not earthquake-prone and safe for its occupants to continue using. Although there was no immediate risk, GRIT went above and beyond to identify potential structural weaknesses and recommend strengthening solutions for the client to consider, which would even further improve their building’s safety, durability and value. . . #SeismicAssessment #BuildingSafety #StructuralModelling #GRITEngineering #BuildingDurability
