#stormwater24 got off to a great start at Tākina Wellington Events Centre yesterday with plenty to discuss and learn. We took a question raised during Helen Shaw and Jenny Vince's session 'After the Floods - What have We Learnt and What Are We Going to do Differently' to visitors to our stand: "Should Stormwater Assets be maintained by the Lot Owner or Councils?" Overheard ( sometimes vehemently stated!) at the voting boxes: - we all have a civic duty - public education is key to ownership and buy-in of the need to maintain the parts of the network we touch - private owners don't care/ don't have the skillset / will be put at risk - the cost is too high - the cost of neglect is too high It was an even split from the get-go to the end of the day. What do you think - Councils need to track and maintain stormwater assets? Or we all have a duty to keep the network running? #stormwater24 #stormwaterassets #floodresponse #floodcontrol #erosionandsedimentcontrol

Take a look at our latest comparative analysis done by our R&D team for a BBA PT150 pump on a client’s dewatering job in Tauranga. Our pumps not only proved more efficient than a comparable competitor pump, but also delivered significant cost savings for our clients. Furthermore, our pumps are still running smoothly with their original piston cups intact (average cost to replace would be around $1,150). #dewatering #BBApumps #PT150 #PistonPump #FuelEfficiency #CostSavings #reliability

Chief Executive Officer at Water New Zealand

Last week I spoke to TVNZ’s Chief Correspondent John Campbell for his new series Water Woes. It’s hard for those outside of the sector to understand the size of the investment required across New Zealand. It’s at least a doubling of what we spend each year, likely a treble, and potentially a quadrupling for the next 30 years particularly when we take account of the climate adaptation needs. Sunday night’s episode is available through the link. In the context of Wellington we lose the equivalent of 77 million litres of water each day in leakage. This equates to a 45% leakage rate (from the source to the tap). Thank you to Wellington Water and Veolia as we filmed at Seaview Wastewater Treatment Plant. Here's a sneaky peak of one of the six Envirohub Lamella Plate Clarifiers we have in action for the state highway 1 repair on the Brynderwyn's. Our Envirohubs are treating run-off water on site before being discharged back into natural waterways. Great job Waka Kotahi NZ for improving the roads to reduce road closures caused by landslides.

We love this behind the scenes footage of roadworkers working on State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyn Hills north of Auckland, where we've closed the road to do critical landslip repair work—it gives you a real sense of the scale of the work happening and the amount of action onsite and the people involved. As you can see we’re making the most of the closure with vehicles, equipment, and heaps of dirt across the road where people would normally be driving. This wouldn’t be possible to do without a full closure. See if you can spot the banks that've been cut into the hillside and the darker section on the biggest cut about halfway through the video. This part of the hill has been hydroseeded—we’ll share more about this work next week, and sign up to the newsletter on our website if you'd like to hear more: https://lnkd.in/gN75zQEz Safety always comes first for us. As the video shows, a project of this scale needs large machinery and equipment to manage the amount of earthworks and construction required. This comes with several safety measures to keep everyone onsite safe. We've implemented a 20km/h speed limit for all vehicles, and some sites (such as this one in the video) are driving on the right side of the road only—that's to keep heavy vehicles and their loads away from the edge of areas that've been compromised by past weather events.

February 13th marks one year since Cyclone Gabrielle devastated the Hawke’s Bay region. Prime Pump was on the ground in Napier and Gisborne working with freight companies, the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council and Civil Defense to get pumps, hoses and accessories to the region. The immediate task was to move flood waters back into the river, and to clear the damaged stormwater network so that civil works crews could bring the pump stations back online. Four things stood out for us during that time: 1. The scale of the devastation - fertile land destroyed, peoples’ lives uprooted, homes and businesses gone. 2. People pitching in – staff at all levels got stuck in, suppliers, freight staff, and customers came together to move gear quickly from our branches into the Hawke’s Bay. 3. Staff dedication – the team worked around the clock to keep the 36 flood relief pumps tuned and fueled. Three staff temporarily relocated to Napier to support the clean up. 4. Local support - the gratitude of the locals despite their environment, and the humbling experience of working with dedicated crews from the Council Works Group and other contractors to restore key infrastructure. While the initial clean-up is complete, future proofing the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne against severe-weather events like Gabrielle is ongoing. With a newly-opened branch in Onekawa, Napier Prime Pump in committed to stormwater management efforts in the region. We are thinking of the crews we worked alongside, and the people of Hawke's Bay today. #primepump #floodpumps #bbapumps #hawkesbayregionalcouncil #primepumpnapier #cyclonegabrielle #napier #floodresponse #floodmitigation
