The R. Tucker Thompson is an iconic gaff-rigged schooner based in New Zealand's Bay of Islands, offering a true tall ship Bay of Islands, NZ experience sailing tours. Day trips, youth leadership, and educational sailing trips are also available.

Their sailing tours in the Bay of Islands provide the rare opportunity to get involved with a working tall ship. Guests can join the crew and help set the sails, coil the lines and climb the rigging to the yards, or if preferred, simply sit back and watch everyone else do the work while enjoying the views from this special tall ship.

R. Tucker Thompson is a not-for-profit Charity. Surpluses from Bay of Islands sailing tours are used to subsidise places for young people from the region to take part in their 7-day youth development voyages over the winter. Youth sailors get to have an amazing experience while also supporting a good cause.

Kura Kaupapa Maori, Primary, Intermediate, and Secondary school students can enjoy an awesome educational experience aboard the R. Tucker Thompson. Their school sailings are an educational experience that students are sure to enjoy. The traditional sailing ship allows for plenty of opportunities to learn how sails work, as well as a chance to put on a harness and climb out on the bowsprit. For NCEA students, there are curriculum links to History Level 1 and 2, Geometry Level 1 and 2, Sailing Level 2 and Tourism Level 2.
