One of James Henry’s key products is new flooring run from recycled timber, in both Matai and Rimu options. Old timber is de-nailed, put through a metal detector and then profiled to new flooring, all in the Upper Hutt workshop. It’s the best of both worlds – a recycled floor with character from the timber’s previous use yet has the qualities of a new floor - clean and without gaps and draughts. It is often used in extensions to character homes to provide a seemless flow between existing and new areas.

Flooring that is uplifted and recycled for re-use is also supplied and laid. Chris sources recycled uplifted flooring from all over NZ and brings it back to James Henry’s Upper Hutt workshop to be docked and have the tongues and grooves cleaned. It is then packed and dispatched, sometimes back to the same distant location – freight is surprisingly cost effective. Recycled uplifted flooring is more difficult to lay than new flooring, but the effort is worth it for the look it creates.

New flooring from both NZ natives and imported hardwoods are also supplied and laid. American White Oak, Jarrah and Victorian Ash are amongst the more popular choices. This is solid timber flooring that is laid and then sanded & coated in place - You simply can’t create in a factory in China the finish that can be achieved when finishing in place.
