The Auckland Aces will welcome back one
of their most successful players with the confirmation that wicket-keeper
batsman Reece Young will return to play for Auckland this season.
Young played twelve seasons for the Aces before moving to Canterbury in 2010 and holds every
wicket-keeping record going for the province.
His time in Canterbury
was a successful one as he broke into the BLACKCAPS and helped the Wizards to a
Plunket Shield title in 2010/11 but he felt the time was right to return to the
Aces fold.
Reece Young said, "I really enjoyed my time in Christchurch but it's great to be coming back
to play for the Aces this season. I know the set-up and environment and it's
great to be coming into a side that's obviously performing so well."
Young had a profitable time in the South Island but the pressures of travel on
him and his young family tipped the balance to return to Auckland.
"With the family back up here and me travelling so much of the time during
the season it made it pretty tough on both of us. Coming back to Auckland is the best of
both worlds for cricket and family."
Auckland Cricket CEO Mark Cameron
was thrilled to be welcoming Young back into the Aces environment.
Mark Cameron said "Reece is obviously
a quality player and has proved that over many years both for Auckland
and for Canterbury.
We are excited that he has decided to come back to play for the Aces and brings
invaluable experience as well as undoubted skill as a wicket-keeper batsman."
Young will be one of the first round of Auckland Aces contracted players to be
announced next week in an eventual list of 14.
