Kelray Heating was founded out of a need for a more durable outdoor heating solution. Dissatisfied with the outdoor heating products on the market at the time, we set out to produce a new generation of outdoor heaters. Kelray Heaters are purpose built for NZ conditions, specifically, our salt-laden air.
With much of the country being coastal, outdoor products are subject to a much harsher environment than in other countries. Unfortunately, overseas-made outdoor heaters do not account for NZ-specific conditions and use a lower grade of stainless steel than is required. This leaves them prone to rapid deterioration, discolouration, and rust.

Why We Only Use Marine Grade Stainless Steel.
Most would assume that stainless steel means just that - stainless! Unfortunately for Kiwi consumers, this is not the case.
Stainless steel comes in many different grades. The most common grade used in outdoor heaters is 304 grade. While this is sufficient in some regions, it is prone to rust in saline environments, like coastal cities. NZ is a nation of coastal settlements. This means 304 grade products deteriorate with prolonged outdoor use. All overseas-made outdoor heaters use the cheaper 304 grade.
Kelray exclusively uses 316 marine-grade stainless steel in the construction of our patio heaters. 316 includes addition of higher quantities molybdenum. Molybdenum drastically enhances corrosion resistance in exposed environments.
