We couldn’t have picked a better day to celebrate the official opening of The Catalina Clubhouse amenities building at Orion Point in Hobsonville. Since breaking ground back in 2021, the project team have worked incredibly hard on both the design and the delivery of Orion Point. A strong focus has been on maximising the village’s position on the peninsula, and ensuring residents have access to the coastal walkway. Design details like this, combined with the landscaping and expansive views, give Orion Point the feel of 5-star luxury! Last Friday we had the pleasure of welcoming local Upper Harbour MP, Cameron Brewer, to Metlifecare’s vibrant new village Orion Point, in Hobsonville. Over coffee, Cameron spoke with interested residents about the coalition government’s current focus, as well as fielding a wide range of questions about education, ferries, crime, infrastructure, and smoke free legislation! The local MP’s visit preceded Orion Point’s Open Day last weekend, which on a blue-sky Autumnal day, was very well attended. It takes a top-notch team to keep the laundry across nine Metlifecare villages in Auckland and Waikato fresh and crisp. Together they tackle about 820kg of laundry daily (that’s around 164 household baskets of washing!) so every day means ‘all hands on deck’. We are thrilled to be the first New Zealand retirement village operator to officially register for a 4 Star Green Star Communities rating with the New Zealand Green Building Council. We have committed to planning, designing, and building Ōtau Ridge (our newest village currently under construction in Clevedon) to an internationally recognised rating system that sets the standard for healthy, resilient, and positive places to live at scale (community or precinct). While there’s still a lot of work before final certification, it reinforces our ambition to be a transformative leader in the sustainability space. Safety first! We recently had the privilege of hosting the Aged Care sector Heath, Safety, and Wellbeing forum at our Newmarket office. The gathering of passionate professionals in one space, sharing insights and collaborating on topics like electric vehicle advancements, resident safety near swimming pools, and aged care health benchmarks, resulted in a profoundly productive day.
