It can be challenging to stay abreast of the global research and trends when it comes to exterior greenery. So, we’ve collaborated with ArchitectureNow to compile it for you – along with case studies. This compelling editorial series is designed specifically for architects and designers. In Part 1, Outside In’s Exterior Technical Adviser, David Frew, shares how exterior greenery goes far beyond the aesthetic. From mitigating urban heat issues to supporting social regeneration, read the essay now and tell us in the comments below what your thoughts are: https://lnkd.in/et9qsuub David offers key strategies for how exterior greenery can be harnessed by architects and designers to mitigate the issues created by our cities of concrete, steel and asphalt. He also delves into the opportunities for storm water management, improving air quality, and reducing carbon emissions. Part 2 in the essay series will be published in the coming weeks. #greencities #naturebasedsolutions #biophilicdesign #greenwalls #greenroofs #architecturenow

Just taking a moment, ahead of "International Plant Appreciation Day" 🌱🌱🌱 tomorrow, to recognise the wonderful Lisa O'Neill, along with her colleagues from Outside In, who look after our stunning life-size indoor terrariums. Containing more than 1,600 plants, they help to make the MC Centre such a unique workspace for our people. Plants bring so many benefits and they help us tap into our creativity, shares Lisa. "According to the theory of Attention Restoration, just by observing nature, humans feel more relaxed and better able to concentrate." To test this hypothesis, researchers from Human Spaces orchestrated a global study of workspace design with 7,600 workers from 16 different countries. They found that work environments that featured plants were linked to 15% higher employee well-being scores as well as a 15% boost in creativity. #InternationalPlantAppreciationDay #LifeSizeTerrariums #MC #MeredithConnell #AwardWinning #OutsideIn #BenefitsOfNature #Plants #Nature #Creativity #Restorative #Wellbeing #AttentionRestorationTheory

Thanks to everyone who entered our competition to win a gorgeous plant in one of our new eclectic planters! The latest eclectic design range includes a greater variety of sizes, textures and colourway options - such as this beauty. We had an amazing response from specifiers around the country including Palmerston North, New Plymouth, and Queenstown. We’ve now drawn the lucky plant parents and will be in touch by the end of this week. Congrats – and if you missed out this time – keep an eye out as we’ll be running this competition again. If you’d like to be added to our quarterly newsletter for industry updates (and exclusive competitions), and/or need product information, get in touch now: https://lnkd.in/gW_bF5RD

“I love how people love plants in their workplaces. It’s so rewarding knowing the difference that my designs can make to how people work, use, and enjoy a space.“ Meet Michaela Ortauf our new Account Manager for Wellington, who enjoys bringing together her horticultural and design expertise to create inspiring spaces. Michaela’s career started in South Africa with a Bachelor of Interior Design from the University of Johannesburg. Since then, she has worked in many areas of design including high-end residential interiors and commercial design - with a stint in joinery design. She first joined Outside In as an interior horticultural technician, and that specialist knowledge has proved invaluable in her new role. Get to know her with these quick fire questions: What is one of your favourite plants to use in your designs – and why? "Syngoniums are top of my list. There are so many varieties to choose from and each brings a beautiful depth of colour." What’s the one tech tool or life hack that you couldn’t live without? "Microsoft OneNote is my must-have. It's a single platform that allows me to have all the information I need at my fingertips – from job notes to my ‘to-do’ list. " We love how uber-organised Michaela is, and the creativity she brings to the Outside In team. It was a beautiful evening spent with architects and designers for the Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZ Institute of Architects Christchurch CPD Talk on Biophilic Design in the built environment. We hosted this event at the Welder in South Town – an urban oasis – the perfect backdrop! We also held a mini moss workshop led by our head moss artist, Natasha Keating – who gave participants a feel for how creative and tactile this product is. Thank you Christchurch for your warm reception and making it a hugely enjoyable event. If you missed the chance to join us, we'll be repeating this CPD Talk as a webinar next year. Details will be shared in early February. #biophilicdesign #biophilia #nzia #architecture
