About us

Escea is a classic New Zealand success story. Beginning in Dunedin in 2002, Escea's founders, Nigel Bamford, Alan McGregor and Garth Milmine, started with a single idea: that a fireplace should not only be efficient and easy to use, but should also be a thing of remarkable beauty. Since then, Escea has become a well-established industry leader in the design, manufacture and export of leading-edge indoor and outdoor gas and wood fireplaces. Our fireplaces are renowned for their modern, minimalist styling, heating efficiency and ease of use. In recent years, business growth has been dramatic, and we currently export our award-winning designs all over the world, including to Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. Escea's rapid success, which has seen the company grow from having no employees to a full-time staff of over 50, has been recognised through a number of industry awards. For three years in a row, the company featured as one of New Zealand's 50 fastest growing companies (Deloitte Fast 50 Index), as well as being the recipient of Westpac Otago Chamber of Commerce Awards.

Understanding each other's needs: A recipe for success! 🤝 At SCHOTT we firmly believe that understanding our customers' needs is key to overcoming challenges together. Over the past decade, working closely together with Escea Fireplace Company, we had the privilege to collaborate with their technical team. They even took the time to learn all about our production process and visited our ROBAX® factory 🏭. Sharing knowledge and expertise enabled us to find innovative solutions to any new glass requirements. By seeing things through each other's eyes, we have fostered a deep understanding of each other's needs, enabling us to overcome any obstacles that come our way. A partnership that is over and above business as usual. • We’re proud to share that our Fire for Life not-for-profit initiative won three awards at the NZ Best Awards - a Gold and prestigious Purple Award in the Public Good category, and a Gold Award in the Non-Consumer Product category. While we’re honoured to be recognised for the achievement, to us, the opportunity to raise awareness of this global issue is what’s most important. The Fire for Life stove solves a real-world problem facing millions of families in developing countries every day. For those who only have an open fire to cook on, the stove provides them with a safer, more efficient, and practical way to cook. Since 2021, and with the help of the team at ReliefAid, we’ve been able to give nearly 5,000 displaced families in Syria a better way to cook and provide for their families, and we’re only just getting started.
